Professor Ibrahim Mammadov, Head of the Department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology of the Faculty of Chemistry of Baku State University (BSU), Farid Naghiyev and Rizvan Askarov, leading researchers of the "Delicate Organic Synthesis" scientific-research laboratory of the Department of Organic Chemistry, co-authored "Functionally substituted pyrimidines based on isatilidene malononitriles and The article "Synthesis and biological activity of pyran derivatives" was published in "ChemistrySelect" journal, included in the list of Q2 quartile category journals (IF: 2.307) in "Web of Science" elm metric database: https://doi.org/10.1002/slct.202202006

Tehsil.biz informs that the properties of newly synthesized substances as inhibitors against enzymes that are the causative agents of many diseases were studied. One group of drugs are acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors, which are widely used against Alzheimer's disease.

It was determined that the pyrimidine and pyran derivatives used in the research showed a high inhibitory effect against AchE, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and α-glucosidase (AG) enzymes. Two of the five substances used in the research (9 and 4a) have anti-AchE, two (6 and 4b) anti-BchE, and two (4a and 10) anti-AG effects.

Thus, it was determined that the tested compounds have potential application as medicinal substances.
