As part of the summer online lecture "China: Society and Culture", Director of the Confucius Institute of Azerbaijan University of Languages (ASU), Rafig Abbasov gave a lecture on "The Art of Chinese Painting".

ASU was informed about this.

It was reported that in his lecture, Rafig Abbasov informed about the history of the caramel painting - "tanhua", which was created as a special sacrificial ceremony to the gods during the Ming Dynasty, as well as the legend of the caramel paintings related to the name of the great Sichuan poet of the Tang Dynasty - Chen Qian. He said that on that day, China's most delicious sugar paintings - figurines - were made in Sichuan province, and were even displayed alongside paper dolls in the traditional shadow theater. By the way, "Tanhua" art has been included in the Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage list by the Chinese government.

R. Abbasov also noted the unique features of the "tanhua" drawing technique, the main material of which is sugarcane heated in a special vessel. So, using a traditional copper spoon, craftsmen pour hot caramel in a thin stream onto a marble slab, creating sweet and delicate images of Chinese mythological dragons, phoenixes, flowers, warriors, even whole three-dimensional landscape paintings and the famous sugar flower baskets.

After the speech, an online master class was held on the topic of "tanhua" on drawing caramel in the form of a figured lace network on a stencil.
