School canteens will be monitored seriously.
Situations in the some school canteens are not good enough. There are some products that harmful for human health are being sold to students in canteens of more than 4,500 secondary schools in Azerbaijan. Also, parents' distrust of school cafeterias make student’s bag heavier. A solution has been found to this problem, which is a serious concern for both students and parents.

The pilot project "School food guides" has been launched

So that, Azerbaijan Food Safety Institute (AFSI) under the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) has launched a pilot project "School Food Guides" with the support of UNICEF and the Ministry of Education. A seminar on 12 topics for the participants of the “Student’s Friend” project (initially 30 people) will be taught online by AFSI specialists.

It was noted that the seminar topics were developed taking into account food safety, COVID-19 prevention guidelines, knowledge and skills on healthy eating, as well as control mechanisms for cafeterias and canteens operating in secondary schools.

There will be public control over school cafeterias, food safety and sanitation

Participants who successfully complete the exam after the seminars will be awarded the "School Food Guides" badge.

With this badge, these individuals will exercise public control over the operation of cafeterias in the schools where they operate, as well as the parties' compliance with food safety and sanitary regulations.

At the same time, educational banners will be placed in cafeterias, toilets and other public areas in the schools they represent, and printed materials will be provided for distribution to students.

Expired food, drinks...

Speaking to our newspaper on the subject, education expert Nadir Israfilov says that many norms are not controlled in the cafeterias of secondary schools: “School is not just about imparting knowledge and skills. We must also raise a healthy generation. It also depends on nutrition. Some children are ate food in the school cafeteria. The problem has always been relevant. The control of the school administration is not at the required level. The products needed for the buffets are provided by private companies.

Expired food and beverages should not be allowed in buffets. The presence of control over this and the implementation of projects will undoubtedly benefit our common work.
