Today is International Children's Day. As in most countries of the world, it is celebrated in Azerbaijan today.

On June 1, 1950, the UN General Assembly decided to celebrate International Children's Day.

At the International Women's Conference held on the same day, proposals were made to ensure the rights of the child, and it was decided to dedicate June 1 to the international protection of children.

Much has been done in Azerbaijan to protect and care for children.

Issues related to the social and legal protection of children in our country are regulated by the Constitution, legislative and normative-legal acts. The legislative framework for the protection of children's rights has been formed in Azerbaijan, the Law on the Rights of the Child (May 19, 1998) and some other normative legal acts have been adopted.

President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on December 22, 2008 to strengthen state care for children in Azerbaijan, increase the attention of civil society organizations to children's problems and determine the country's demographic prospects for children. According to the decree, 2009 was declared the "Year of the Child".
