Wind Wednesday is celebrated in Azerbaijan today.

According to Tehsil.biz, Wind Wednesday, popularly known as "Windy Wednesday" and "Wednesday that make wind wake up", is the third of the following Wednesdays.

According to the belief, the wind that wakes up on Wednesday, the wind wakes up the water, make the fire moves. There are various songs, legends, myths, beliefs, parables, etc. about the fact that wind is a god in oral folklore appeared.

The Yel Baba (Wind father) ceremony performed during the Novruz festivities is connected with the belief in the wind god of our ancestors. It is believed that before Yel Baba came to the threshing floor, they did not take wheat from there. The son of the one who took the unharvested wheat dies. They do not curse the wind. On Windy Wednesday, women prepare for the last Wednesday.

Household items are cleaned, carpets are thrown, blankets and mattresses are aired. The ladies sew new clothes for the children. The bridesmaids pack nuts and prepare sweets. On that day, a red cloth is tied in the middle of an inch of grown malt.

On a windy Wednesday, bonfires are lit on the yard and milky pilaf is cooked at home. Desserts made mostly of dried fruits and cereals are placed on the table.

It should be noted that, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, March 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 this year is Novruz holiday. Due to the fact that March 20 falls on a Sunday, in accordance with paragraph 5 of Article 105 of the Labor Code, working and rest days will be changed, and March 25 will be a non-working day. Thus, as March 19, 26 and 27 coincide with Saturdays and Sundays, there will be no work for 9 consecutive days (March 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27) in connection with Novruz holiday.
